Dear "New to all of this", from my experience as a mother of two boys that are serving 4 years for 30 seconds of alcohol induced stupidity, is that they want to see his papers to verify that he is not a rapist or child molester, because they are considered the scum of the earth, in prison. I totally get the child molester part, but as you can see by some of the posts on this site is that some have been tagged a rapist for the wrong reason, and i pray for their saftey. Why murders are treated better than a rapist is perplexing. He will continue to get hassled until he shows them his papers.
I get "chapped" at the fact that if someone SAYS something to someone else, that others might construe as a "slam", then they better do something about it or they will lose respect and will get chastized, over a couple of words, which is risking their good time, getting thrown in the hole and other uglies. Aren't they suposed to be learning tolerance? And don't get me started on the segregation and hatred of other races.

I have high hopes for the new head of DOC. I think she can see that education and incentives is the way to run a CORRECTIONAL facility. Enforcing and rewarding good behavior along with education and teaching life skills is the way to go. They need to be rewarded for bettering themselves, and being good and making "good" plans for life. Which is why this should be a time of correction, not just a time out.

Thank you so much Cindi. I'm really hoping that he hasn't had anyone else harass him for his papers since I last talked to him a few days ago. I know that there are some good people in there who will hopefully see just how vulnerable he is and look out for him if anyone else tries anything. I'm really so sorry to hear about your son. I can not even begin to imagine just how hard this must be to go through as a parent. I'll be keeping you and him both in my prayers and will also pray that he gets to come home safely to you soon.

New to all of this, my heart goes out to you. Tell your fiance to not speak of his charges to any one. And to try and find some one he can become aqquainted with. I am going through some of the same things you are only it is my youngest son who's wife put charges on him. Good luck to you and him and I will remember you in my prayers.

Just last week my fiance was sent to prison. He was forced to take the plea bargain for 13 months after he was threatened with two Measure 11 charges for which there was absolutely NO physical evidence for either "crime". He was the unfortunate victim of a family who didn't want him exposing their little secrete illegal "activities" to the police (even though they are no stranger at all to the law). My fiance has been nothing but a good, kind, loving, caring, generous, and responsible man ever since he and I decided to change our lives around for the better shortly before getting engaged over a year and a half ago (after the alleged "crime" took place). We got clean, stayed sober, enrolled in school, got jobs, started going to church, and even quit smoking before all of this blew up. High debts that we'll have to pay for the rest of our lives, having to postpone our wedding plans and plans to move to our first home, having to drop our college classes due to such copious amounts of stress, losing a good job that he worked so hard for after one of the family members found out where he worked and decided to let his employers know of his charges since they were pissed that the D.A. wanted to only give him probation, and the emotional pain was apparently not enough for the D.A. She even changed her mind after telling him that she didn't want to just lock him away for a long time because she could tell he was a good kid and he hasn't had anything on his adult record. We were lead on for months to get our hopes up and believe it was probation and then she decided to just randomly drop the prison bomb on us without any reasoning at all. We have never been though this before nor have we ever known anyone who has. I kept trying to tell myself that it wasn't as bad as they show on the movies, but already the other guys are harassing him to have me send his conviction papers up so that they can "classify" him and get yet another excuse to assault him other than the fact that they've been picking on him because he stays quite and to himself all of the time. He's only been there for such a short time and people are already harassing and threatening him when wall the does is keep to himself. I breaks my heart to not only know that so many people support a law that they don't even know the truth behind. Measure 11 may have been made to "lock the worst criminals away", but what it really does is destroy families, relationships, lives, and happiness. It is such an unjust law, and makes me so irritated that the state can just so callously decide to put someone who is so good and undeserving away without any proper evidence that "proves beyond a reasonable doubt", and just destroy not only one, but MANY lives. It's not a game they're playing with, it's our family members, partners, spouses, friends, children, and even sometimes ourselves. I am completely new to this whole prison thing as I stated before and didn't even know about how asinine the state could be until just recently. I know that tonight, something had brought me to this website... and I am so glad it did. I am really inspired by reading all of the stories of others going through the same thing and knowing that I am in no way alone. I really feel even more inspired after reading all of your stories and realizing how much of a strong community this is, and I want to do whatever it takes to take a stand for what's right and fight for our loved ones. I will definitely be praying for everyone, as well as that we may be able to finally open everyone else's eyes as to how unjust these laws can be. May god bless you all. :)

Hello everybody....Always hoping to hear from everyone.I'm so aware measure 11 seems so hopeless, but we need to communicate.
What can we do? I have often thought about going to Salem and picket. If my health was better I would love to.I still send letters.
Your post #459 was amazing showing how unjust measure 11 is.
Does anyone know how many measure 11 cases were overturned?
My prayers are with you all.

So very scary the jury was so ignorant!!unbeliveable to hear..Yes..Yes..you are so right the DA'S LOVE measure 11. Measure 11 gives them power...I would be so bitter...bless you for remaining sane! I was so depressed after reading your post, it all looks so bleak with measure11 still a cruel law. What can be done?? I would post and shout it to the world your unfairness in every paper's front page..I doubt if citizens would even care after the jury considered you guilty.I have zero respect for DA'S..wonder what the jury thought after you were released??I would sue the DA..God is with you for sure! Thanks for letting me ramble...I am shocked beyond words..I feel for the innocent people still in prison..so many..God bless you always...

I was falsely accused of touching a ten year old girl on the buttocks with a hand for one second. I did not touch this girl. Even if I were to ever touch her, it would never have been with a sexual or deviate purpose. The accusation turned into a wrongful conviction because of the extreme misconduct of a prosecutor named Carroll J. Tichenor, now a sitting Judge. It is a good thing that I was innocent...as there was no victim but myself. This accuser is not an honest person, and she is known to manipulate and harm people with her attitude--she is akin to Tichenor. Dangerous to be around. I was the victim and spent 75-months in prison. Let me tell you that one day locked up in prison is hell. Six years for an alleged touch on the buttocks for one second. You would have to assume guilt to even rationalize this--but if you truly comprehend what a life behind bars is, you will give every accused person a fair trial. One is never convicted until they are provided a fair trial.
I was facing 18 years in prison because of BALLOT MEASURE 11. I was offered probation. I am innocent and faced a jury. The verdict was 11-1 on one count. The jury heard a complete series of lies---even then there was no evidence. The prosecutor has misled everyone about my case--and BM 11 was his best friend. If we take BM 11 away, prosecutors will yell the loudest--now you know who benefits the most!
